Absolute leader of the 2016 “Top-200 Ukraine” ranking is the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, which moved forward due to the criterion: “Innovative activity of universities”. During the last year, over 40 startups have been created in its innovative ecosystem “Sikorsky Challenge”; and 29 of them have received investments from private venture funds and high-tech companies in the total of 573 million UAH.

According to such model the NTUU “KPI” has created and launched into the space the first Ukrainian nanosatellite “PolyTan 1” and currently is preparing to launch into the orbit next space systems; the NTUU “KPI” has brought out into the market a series of unmanned aerial vehicles "Spectator" for the army and civil industries of Ukraine, has introduced industrial technologies of water purification, cutting-edge systems in the field of green energetic, biomedical engineering, aviation and other areas of human activities.

The second position in the ranking occupied the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Graduates of the university are widely demanded by public authorities, it is in the top 500 universities in the world according to the QS ranking, it has the highest position among the Ukrainian HEIs in the Scopus ranking. The third and fourth place took two universities of Kharkiv – V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”, respectively. The fifth position occupied National University “Lviv Polytechnic”.
